Top 3 Adventures in Northern Territory, Australia

Australia’s Northern Territory is filled with stunning desert landscapes, red rock domes, striking cliffs and so much more and it’s a great place to vacation. If you’re heading there soon, here are three of the coolest adventures you should enjoy while you’re there.

Ayers Rock (Uluru): This isn’t “just some rock.” Ayers Rock is one of the most amazing formations that, if you can wrap your head around this fact, was formed more than 600 million years ago. Located at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, it will take you about four hours to hike your way completely around it if you’re up for it, or you can camp out underneath it, but whatever you do, don’t climb on it. Making the attempt has cost several visitors their lives.

Kakadu National Park: If you are looking for a place to do more hiking and want to get up-close and personal with some plant life and wildlife, then Kakadu National Park is the one to visit. This biodiverse nature reserve is home to 2,000 plant species and wildlife. One of the most interesting things to check out is the Aboriginal rock paintings at the Bowali Visitor Centre in Jabiru. You can take local tours, a sunset cruise or a flight over the area and get an aerial view of its beauty.

West MacDonnell National Park: This National Park is home to the popular Larapinta Trail, as well as the Ormiston Pound, the Ellery Creek Bighole, Glen Helen, Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm, Mount Sonder, Serpentine Gorge, the Ochre Pits and Redbank Gorge. It will take you a few days to see everything, but that’s okay, because you can spend time camping, swimming, hiking and exploring the stunning gorges and waterholes – which you’ll want to jump into after you’ve been touring for a day. Every waterhole, mountain and tourist destination is a sacred site for the Central and Western Arrernte Aboriginal people in the park.

The Northern Territory of Australia is a great place to vacation if you enjoy looking at some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Talk to your travel agent to plan this once-in-a-lifetime trip to the area.
